At the far end of the Pacific War Memorial, on a hill overlooking the rest of Corregidor Island, stands the monument of the Eternal Flame. This dynamic steel sculpture captures the indomitable spirit that made this tiny island a beacon of hope, courage and freedom for people caught up in the vast, incomprehensible drama that was World War II, and weaves it into an inspiring symbol consistent with modern times.
