Kindley Field runway

Located at the tail section of the island, Kindley Field was was used by the U.S. and Philippine Army Air Corps. Because of the island's configuration, aircraft using this runway had a clear approach from the open sea.

Kindley Field's western end can be seen in this photo, while the Bataan peninsula's outline can be made out in the hazy distance.

Kindley Field runway, eastern tip

Looking the other way, we see the eastern portion of the runway. The paved road is part of the island's new road network, and is not part of the airfield. Tour buses and vehicles can drive all the way to the tower's doorstep.
