PRES. MANUEL L. QUEZON PARK

Manuel L. Quezon Park

Manuel Luis Quezon was the first president of the Philippine Commonwealth. At the helm of the government when World War II broke out, he and other high-ranking government officials were eventually forced to leave the capital city of Manila and move the the seat of government to Corregidor Island. As of the siege of the fortified island grew longer, and with no help in sight from any American naval convoy, they were again forced to evacuate; this time to the United States, where they set up a government-in-exile. Pres. Quezon did not live to see the liberation of his homeland. He died in the United States on August 1, 1944. Note: The Quezon Statue has been relocated to the Filipino Heroes' Memorial.
